Fidelia's Friday - Heartiest Congratulations to my sister!

Today my post is especially dedicated to my dearest sister, Florianna. I mentioned her upcoming convocation in a previous post

Florianna graduated with a Masters of Science in Safety, Health and Environment from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai, Johor last Saturday, 24th September 2011.

My mother was able to attend her convocation that Saturday but my father came 2 days later to take some pictures with her.

We are all proud of her and wish her "all the best" for her future. Keep up the good work, sister!

Here are a couple of photos of my sister.

With my beautiful lovely mother...

With my handsome smart father...

We are now waiting for her PhD convocation in 3 years time. Hopefully we will be there. Fingers crossed!

Have you been so proud of any of your siblings' achievements?

Leaves in Kuantan - Part 4

The final installment of Leaves in Kuantan is upon us and this week has gone too fast!

Enjoy the final images of leaves in Kuantan and perhaps you will leave with some inspiration to explore nature yourself or get the camera out and snap away!

Leaves in Kuantan - Part 3

For Leaves in Kuantan - Part 3, we'll be looking at some of the usual green leaves, but also some with different colours.

Enjoy the show! You can imagine how much I love walking around the streets and photographing such beauty. Every day is a great adventure with nature on show, and camera in hand.

The sun as the backlight really brings the images to life!

Leaves in Kuantan - Part 2

I hope you all enjoyed the close-up shots of leaves around Kuantan yesterday. If you happened to miss it, you can view it here.

Today there is a little more colour involved and a lot of magical sunlight, which always makes for great images!

Look out for Part 3 tomorrow!

Leaves in Kuantan - Part 1

For the last few months or so I've been collecting images of leaves in Kuantan. I've taken many pictures of flowers and plants and trees but never really just focused solely on leaves.

Leaves in Malaysia are evergreen. There is no spring, autumn or winter, so we never witness the beautiful yellows, oranges or reds like back in England, but we do always witness the fresh greenery all around. Hope you enjoy Part 1:

First up are some macro shots of leaves. The veins look like streets and blocks of houses.

Blog Flashbacks

A year ago this weekend I visited the Sikh Temple here in Kuantan for the first time. Although I could barely make out what the man was saying to me, I had a good time there!

A couple of years back I often woke up before the sun to catch its arrival at the start of a new day. This particular time was stunning!

How often do you catch the sunrise?

Fidelia's Friday - Dissatisfied customer

Yesterday, Duncan decided to print out some pictures so we could put them in our frames at home. So, he went to this printing shop which he truly trusts (because he was satisfied with their service the last time he went) nearby our house.

When he came back, I saw his unhappy face and he said "I am not very happy with them!" I asked "Why?" So, he showed me the pictures. My reaction was "Oh my, what have they done to our pictures?" I couldn't believe for the first time Duncan didn't say a word to them when he saw those pictures and instead he just paid them! Seeing those horrible looking pictures just completely destroyed the start of my lovely day.

Duncan decided to make things right. So, he cycled to another photo shop about 20 minutes away. When he reached the shop, he asked them while showing the awful pictures, "Can you do better than these?" They answered, "Of course!"

So, I am now a happy lady again after we developed better ones. We are now able to put them in our beautiful frames and make our house look even better.

Here are a couple of pictures that really got me angry. Are you ready?

On the left, I looked like I have a third degree sunburn! The right one is better quality!

As you can see in the bottom picture, I screwed it up because I was so angry! Look at us? I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw this. Now I can laugh about it though.

Anyway, I also fixed our printer today. We can print out pictures ourselves now so Duncan and I are happy bunnies. Save a lot of money as well because we don't have to send the printer to a computer shop to fix the cartridges.

Have you ever been a dissatisfied customer before? If yes, do you tell them that you are not satisfied or you just keep quiet and get on with your life? I think we have the right to say what we think is not good enough. CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!

Blog maintenance

I've been busy for the last couple of days updating my blog. I've made a number of changes including the background image, style of lettering and ordering of things.

I have also created some new pages to the blog which can be found under the header. They include "Kuantan Hotels" and "Kuantan attractions". The "Religious Sites in Kuantan" page is still under construction and will be joining shortly.

The purpose of this change is to make more of my material about Kuantan more easily accessible to you the visitors. Also for those who may be coming across my blog for the first time, there is plenty of information about Kuantan available within a few seconds.

I hope you all enjoy the new layout, and please let me know if it makes things more easily reachable for you. Thanks!

I am the Kuantan blogger.

Taman Jubli Perak Sultan Ahmad Shah

Set in a little valley in Indera Mahkota, the Taman Jubli Perak Sultan Ahmad Shah is a treasure in Kuantan.

Yes, the name is long, but basically it's a garden area surrounding a lake with loads of trees providing sufficient cover from the sun.

It lies beside the Kuantan immigration complex and is the scene for photographers and those who enjoy the outdoors. I met some college students spending some time snapping pictures of the scenery. Had a little chat with them before I pulled out my camera and began my tour.

There is ample parking space and it never seems to be too crowded. It is most popular in the evenings as people come for an evening jog or walk around the lake. There is also a children's playground to keep the small ones occupied, and a small eatery.

That's the Kuantan immigration complex
