Spending time at Taman Gelora

We recently took our Russian friends to Taman Gelora. Regular visitors to my blog will know all about Taman Gelora from previous posts. It's a beautiful, tranquil park by the beach where people love to go jogging in the evening and where it is not so hot due to the bounteous trees blocking out a good portion of the sun's rays. Or if you're me, you love taking photographs at Taman Gelora!

KL Bird Park

The KL Bird Park is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Cenderawasih, Taman Tasik Perdana. It is set in the scenic Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens and is just a 10-minute drive from the city centre. (It's notable that KL Bird Park is also accessible via KL Hop-On-Hop-Off bus - station 14 is at the KL Bird Park Main Entrance).

Boasting the world's largest free-flight, walk-in aviary, the KL Bird Park is a must-visit place in Malaysia. If you love birds like me, you will love the KL Bird Park for it's beauty and wide variety of bird species. The best part is that they all roam around together and are tolerant of humans.

The KL Bird Park opened in 1991 and covers 21 acres of land, divided into 4 zones. We managed to walk around the entire park, though we would have stayed much longer if it wasn't for our children feeling under the weather.

I was amazed by how friendly the birds were with humans. I even managed to crouch just a few feet away from birds so I could take a picture, without them moving an inch!

The first area after entering is the Love Aviary. These love birds were colourful to say the least. One flew from behind me, right past my left ear, which gave me quite a shock, but they did pose nicely for pictures!

These little birds were all over the place, following us around, easy to photograph. They were Lauren's favourite birds!

Taman Gelora through Photoshop

Yesterday I blogged about a lovely park here in Kuantan named Taman Gelora.

Yesterday I played around with one image from that shoot in Photoshop. Here is the original image:

After putting this image through Photoshop, I've been able to create some almost abstract images of the same scene but seen through entirely different eyes.

Enjoying the sun

I took Lauren out for a play on the park on Sunday. 

With all the rain we've been having of late, we decided to take advantage of the sunny afternoon which presented itself.

We didn't stay for long as the sun was so pulsating. We live in a country of extremes: it's either tipping it down with rain making going out impossible, or it's burning hot, making any time out very brief!

Taman Sahabat, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

Taman Sahabat is a beautiful garden area in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It literally translates as "friendly garden" and was created to highlight the partnership between Malaysia and China.

The park shows a relationship between Kuching city and China's Kunming city. We went there at night time and it looked very inviting and was warmly illuminated. Here are some pictures:

These stone tablets depicting each of the states that make up Malaysia were very interesting and beautifully done:

This is a statue of Zheng He who lived in the 14th-15th centuries. Apparently he made many voyages, including to Malaysia.

Taman Jubli Perak Sultan Ahmad Shah

Set in a little valley in Indera Mahkota, the Taman Jubli Perak Sultan Ahmad Shah is a treasure in Kuantan.

Yes, the name is long, but basically it's a garden area surrounding a lake with loads of trees providing sufficient cover from the sun.

It lies beside the Kuantan immigration complex and is the scene for photographers and those who enjoy the outdoors. I met some college students spending some time snapping pictures of the scenery. Had a little chat with them before I pulled out my camera and began my tour.

There is ample parking space and it never seems to be too crowded. It is most popular in the evenings as people come for an evening jog or walk around the lake. There is also a children's playground to keep the small ones occupied, and a small eatery.
