Petrosains PlaySmart @ Yayasan Pahang, Kuantan

There is a great exhibition going on at Yayasan Pahang, Tanjong Lumpur, Kuantan, named "Petrosains PlaySmart". It's a science exhibition where children can learn about the rules of science in an exciting and fun way, through various games and exercises.

This exhibit is on until 2015, so there's plenty of time to visit and make return trips! Here's the address:

Petrosains PlaySmart Kuantan
Kompleks Yayasan Pahang,
Tanjung Lumpur,
26060 Kuantan,
Pahang Darul Makmur

We decided to check it out this morning, and we were pleased to see that we were the ONLY ones there! We had the entire room to ourselves. One of the staff came and showed Lauren around all the games.

Apparently it is MUCH busier at the weekends, so if you want to avoid the crush, come on a weekday.

There are plenty of activities for everyone.

Check out this hovering ball!

Lauren tried the standing long jump . . .

Leah tried the sprint. She clocked 2km/h haha!

Fidelia and Lauren tried their feet at tightrope walking.

And what did I enjoy the most? Anything that involves a football!

Football throwing speed. I got 56km/h...

Football target practice . . .

Fidelia gave it a try too . . .

Thinks she's Ryan Giggs with that trusty left foot!!!

Not bad technique . . .

No food and drinks are allowed inside, so I'd advise you to bring along plenty of liquids to keep in the car for when you're finished. This exhibition is quite a work-out!

I assembled this cube in no time!

Here we are with the "Head on Plate" mirror illusion:

Leah played in the balls for a while . . .

Playing around with another mirror illusion:

These lights appear to go for infinity . . .

We easily spent 2 hours at Petrosains PlaySmart Kuantan. There is just so much stuff to try out! Hopefully we'll be going back for another visit soon!

A toilet seat, a toilet roll, and a barrel of fun!

Recently I've been blogging about rainy days in Kuantan. It wears me down, both mentally and physically, but, if you're struggling to find ways to pass the time, I may have the answer!

THE CRAP PAPER GAME!

The Crap Paper Game requires 2+ participants, a toilet seat, plenty of cheap toilet rolls, a stopwatch and a large bin bag.

Sit on the closed toilet seat and attach the toilet roll to the holder on the wall. Have somebody else stand by with a stopwatch (and another person with the camera, if you wish to record it!). When the clock starts, you are to unravel the toilet roll as fast as possible! The person with the quickest time wins! (You can have just one, or multiple rolls each)

Here is my Horne family World Record Roll of 7.35 seconds. Click the link below, enjoy the video, and try it out yourself!

Happy rolling!

Happy girls

When it's raining all day the girls are happy watching dvds of Dora the Explorer, Barbie, and The Four Golden Princesses (a Chinese girl band).

Wherever you are, have a great day!

Roger Federer dominating the TV in Kuantan

As you may or may not know, we love Roger Federer here. He has been dominating our TV for the last week and a half, and we are absolutely thrilled that he's made his 10th consecutive Australian Open semi-final! That's incredible!

Roger Federer beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7/6, 4/6, 7/6, 3/6, 6/3 in the quarter finals of the Australian Open

Our house has been full of screams and shouts and "C'mons" mixed with frenzied excitement and palpable tension. Nothing beats tennis!

So my Roger Federer blog has been very active over the past several days. Please go over and check it out! (Andy Murray fans are also welcome!)

Bugs love the rain, even if I don't!

In an earlier post, I had guessed that the rainy season in Kuantan had come to an end, but as you can see from the raindrops in this photograph, I spoke too soon!

You will also notice this intriguing bug that came to settle on our orchids yesterday afternoon.

It's cool and wet here in Kuantan, pretty miserable weather. Makes it especially nice when I come across a photo like this!

Going for walks with the children

It struck me that we spend most of our time indoors at home. When Lauren was younger and Fidelia was still at university, I used to take her out for many walks, to admire nature, get some fresh air, and play.

Since Leah has been born, I haven't really taken her out like I did for Lauren. I felt bad. So I took them both out the other day.

We went for a run around on the field.

It's great to get out the house!

Rainy Season in Kuantan

I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but I think the rainy season in Kuantan is over. We haven't had any monsoon rains since the really bad ones at Christmas.

The rainy season in full flow in Kuantan

I'm looking forward to brighter and drier days ahead!
