We were fortunate to be invited at no expense to Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort's Gangnam Style New Years Eve (NYE) party on 31st December, 2012/1st January, 2013.
The lighting set-up and intermittent smoke effects were a great disturbance to a photographer like me. However, I persevered and snapped away. This morning I uploaded, the photos, re-sized them and edited them and they look much better!
The Gangnam Style NYE party was scheduled to get under way at 7.30pm. The ballroom looked like this:

Of course, not many people showed up on time, so it actually started around 8.30pm. Here's how it looked later in the night:
We were given a table right in front of the stage, which meant I didn't have to get up and walk around too much to snap photos.
Lauren and Leah enjoyed dancing on this mini light-up stage!
The food was beautifully presented and we would have enjoyed the 4-course meal better if the music hadn't been so stomach-poundingly loud!
Appetiser: Korean style tuna maguro, prawn tartare, mix salad, Kimchee vinaigrette, beluga caviar, sesame dressing |
Soup: Lobster bisque fennel cream soup |
Sorry I didn't take a picture of the main course which was:
Pan-seared duck thigh, mushroom, white radish Kimchee, lyonnais potato, fondant carrot, spicy coconut sauce
Dessert: Strawberry pistachio macaroon, Green tea chocolate cake, Raspberry cream brule, Apple pie, Chocolate praline, Skewered fruits |
The evening began with a stunning laser show . . .
The lasers were beamed from the back of the ballroom
Shortly afterwards we were treated to a very nice dance from this lady with golden wings, as she emerged from the smoke . . .
Another two ladies then performed on the stage with walking sticks . . .
The MC called on a few foreigners as volunteers up at the stage. I shamefully put my head down and pretended to do something important with my camera, discreetly hushing my wife and daughter who were playfully poking and nudging me!
The foreigners learned a traditional Malaysian dance
And then there was more Gangnam Style dancing!
Then it was the children's turn to be invited onto the stage. Lauren went up and enjoyed herself too. They danced and shouted "Happy New Year" down the mic!
Plenty of time for another Gangnam Style dance!
This band is from KL and they go by the name of H2O. They kept us entertained very well!
We didn't hang around until the countdown at midnight as Leah was getting tired, but it was a fun night nonetheless!
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM KUANTAN TO ALL OF MY BLOG READERS!
What a gorgeous way (among beautiful people) to welcome the New Year. You did mention noise. At my age I much prefer a quiet evening. But I enjoy visiting blogs such as yours to visually enjoy the festivities.
