Frankie Sandwich Cafe

Frankie Sandwich Cafe is located in Star City, Kuantan nearby Old Town White Coffee, just along the road from the Rozel furniture place. It's easily accessible from Jalan Beserah.

First impression was good as we walked through the doors of Frankie Sandwich Cafe. The restaurant is clean, tidy and nicely arranged. Service was quick, though that was probably because we were just the second customer there.

As you can see from these menus, Frankie Sandwich Cafe is quite pricey but there is a wide variety of dishes on offer. I opted for the Frankie Tripledecker Sandwich and a regular hot chocolate.

Frankie, the owner of Frankie Sandwich Cafe, came to assist us with our order and serving us our food, though he shied away from having his photo taken for this post!

This was a side dish of mashed potato with a delicious layer of melted cheese

I was really surprised at just how big my Tripledecker Sandwich was! It was very filling!

Fie chose this noodle dish, though it was made of simple instant noodles which you can pick up very cheaply at any superstore

And finally, the toilet. I do pass a large portion of judgement about a place on the quality and cleanliness of its toilet. Frankie Sandwich Cafe's toilet is clean and spacious and passes the toilet test!

Overall, Frankie Sandwich Cafe is a great place to eat but a little on the costly side - our bill came to RM107! - but well worth a visit for his sandwiches and the nice atmosphere.

Our stay at Majestic Hotel KL - Part 2

For today, we'll look at some of the attractions from the lobby up to the 4th floor. These are the more public areas of the hotel where guests can wander around and appreciate the beauty.

Orchids are a common occurrence at Majestic Hotel, as can be seen in the toilet (above), in the rooms, and also in the beautiful Orchid Room. The Orchid Room is located on the 2nd floor, between the Majestic Wing and the Tower Wing. The doors are locked and it can be rented out for the afternoon.

Keep Calm and Use the bathroom

Quite an appropriate background colour for this poster, don't you think?!

Using the bathroom is a basic human need. Nowadays we have fancy toilet bowls with an array of different coloured seats, a handy flush handle, and the option of water (hose) or toilet paper to clean ourselves up. Our waste is conveniently flushed down a hole never to be seen again.

But it wasn't always as easy as that, and in some places, still isn't.

Whichever way you do it, Keep Calm and USE the bathroom.

Recently I've been blogging about rainy days in Kuantan. It wears me down, both mentally and physically, but, if you're struggling to find ways to pass the time, I may have the answer!

THE CRAP PAPER GAME!

The Crap Paper Game requires 2+ participants, a toilet seat, plenty of cheap toilet rolls, a stopwatch and a large bin bag.

Sit on the closed toilet seat and attach the toilet roll to the holder on the wall. Have somebody else stand by with a stopwatch (and another person with the camera, if you wish to record it!). When the clock starts, you are to unravel the toilet roll as fast as possible! The person with the quickest time wins! (You can have just one, or multiple rolls each)

Recovering from A-Z April

A-Z April was a very busy month, and not just for the blogging challenge. Lots of things were happening in our lives as well, and perhaps it's all taken its toll on us.

Well at least on me. I've been struggling to have too many positive thoughts when logging in to blogger and having the opportunity of writing a post. Taking a rest from the blog for a while has been necessary. The A-Z blogging challenge was particularly challenging, more so than last year. Whether or not I'll be joining up next year is by no means decided.

So I've been sifting through my photos for something simple and light-hearted today, and came across the perfect image I snapped a few months ago at HTAA (Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan), the government hospital in Kuantan. I was teaching English there and made a quick trip to the bathroom where I saw this poster on the toilet door:

I find this incredibly . . . . . hilarious! I guess there are still some people here who don't know how to use a toilet properly!

Strange Toilet in Sungai Lembing

To a lot of you, this toilet I came across in Sungai Lembing may be a little on the strange side. A small room with a bucket of water (out the picture to the right) and a hole in the corner.

First up, let me tell you what and where Sungai Lembing is. Sungai Lembing is a tiny town about 45 minutes drive from Kuantan. It is a town that time forgot. Famous for its tin mines once upon a time, visitors both local and foreign make day trips to see this mysterious place.

You can drive from one end of the town to the other along its main road in about 30 seconds. The abandoned tin mines lie at one end of this road.

Sungai Lembing is still habitable mind you, but if you can't figure out this toilet, where to put your trousers, how to clean yourself up, you're going to be rather stuck!

Happenings on this day of Tuesday 18th January, 2011

So I had a tuition class this morning for an hour after another struggle to get out of bed. These last few nights I've slept very comfortably and I've had to fight myself out of bed for my morning classes. Thankfully, the bed eventually lost after half-hour epic battles!

The Australian Open tennis has started and is on channel 813 all day every day, so that is a dominant force now and will be for these coming two weeks. Yesterday I watched my favourite player Roger Federer, win an easy first round match, and my favourite women's player, Justine Henin, fight out a great comeback to beat a bullish Sania Mirza. Champions always find a way to win. Today, Nadal didn't drop a single game before his opponent retired with a knee injury in the 2nd set. Ana Ivanovic suffered a setback with an epic loss in the first round, going down 8-10 in an incredible final set. I'm just getting ready to watch Lleyton Hewitt slug it out with David Nalbandian.

This morning we went to Klinik Gambut for Fie's check-up. I was most appalled by the standard of the toilets. In a place where good health and hygiene are advised, where pregnant women and newborn babies visit, the dirty, smelly toilets are an absolute disgrace. The men's toilet at the adjoining dental clinic was unclean, wet, and had a pungent smell like those public toilets one encounters on highways. Trying to help my daughter use the toilet there was a horrible moment. There was no toilet paper, I wouldn't fancy handling the hose which was wet with who knows what type of fluid all over it, and the sink was small and dirty with a filthy mirror hanging above it. My wife had to use the ladies toilet at the clinic and reported that it was dirty and the toilet wouldn't flush! Of all places, I would have never imagined this in a health centre!! I am amazed that such atrocities can exist!

I had pancakes for lunch, made by myself, with a squeeze of lemon and sprinkling of sugar. I do feel like a good bowl of pasta now though, with cream cheese sauce.

While waiting at the clinic, Fie whipped out her trendy Zenith Hotel notebook and I began teaching Lauren the alphabet. She can correctly identify almost all 26 of the letters, but finds little motivation to count numbers. 

Looks like she'll be taking on English, just like her daddy!
