On this weekend last year I shared some images of Kuching from our trip to my wife's hometown on the island of Borneo. We had a great time and saw some interesting sights, including this totem pole at the museum. Click the above link to view those photos.

Around this date two years ago I posted about a visit to Singapore, the fabulous city-island to the immediate south of Malaysia. I used to visit Singapore often before I got my visa issues settled. Back in 2010 we visited the Lao Zi Dragon Temple and came across these fantastic orchids! 

In 2009 I posted a lengthy and detailed document on Galileo Galilei, the great astronomer of the renaissance. Unfortunately, despite receiving many page views, this article has just one comment. I'd love to hear your thoughts about Galileo and this important time in history!

Blog Flashbacks Saturday

I hope you're all having a great start to the weekend. For me it's a sunny Saturday morning, doing some laundry and attending to my youngest daughter's teeth coming through accompanied by a mild fever.

It's the first week of December and preparations for Christmas are well under way. The tree is up, (and has been for a couple of weeks) and plans are advanced for buying presents for the children and family members.

A year ago to the day I witnessed a lovely sunrise when I woke up inadvertently early, way before my alarm. I was so glad I did! Not only did I see a beautiful event in the skies, I also learned some life lessons which I couldn't have gained had I rolled over and gone back to sleep.

Blog Flashbacks

Welcome to another round of blog flashbacks for this weekend. It's the first day of October, the month of my birth, and I'm getting older. I'm not too excited about that but I guess with each year that passes, I store more and more flashbacks to look back on and find joy!

First up is my visit to the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple in Kuantan town a year ago. It's a colourful hindu temple and I had a great conversation with an Indian lady there about religion.

In 2009 we witnessed a stunning Bonsai exhibition at East Coast Mall on a Saturday morning, followed by a Mooncake Festival at Teluk Chempedak beach later that night. A great Saturday indeed!

A year ago this weekend I visited the Sikh Temple here in Kuantan for the first time. Although I could barely make out what the man was saying to me, I had a good time there!

Welcome to this weekend's Blog Flashbacks post!

In mid-September 2010 I discovered a nice little Chinese temple on top of a hill. The Tow Moo Keong temple sits atop a hill with views of Kuantan town and is just a few minutes from the town centre. The artwork is colourful and skillfully displayed. It's well worth a visit!

A couple of years ago we bought a small aquarium with some tiny little fish. We were excited but soon enough the fish began to drop dead and it was all over pretty quickly. The following link will take you to one of the updates on the state of our aqaurium from September 2009:

Blog Flashbacks Saturday

On this weekend a year ago, in September 2010, I posted some information about the nature of my blog and published images of our home as it was then. It was interesting to see how much it has changed in just a year!

In September 2009, I was, as I am currently, busy watching great tennis from the U.S. Open. I'm a Federer loyalist and he is looking good this year. A couple of years ago he had just beaten Djokovic in the semis to book a final meeting with Juan Martin Del Potro, who famously beat my man in 5 close sets.

I'm hoping that Federer can go all the way this year. He may be 30, he may have 2 young children, but he's still got the star quality!
