The Manhattan Fish Market, East Coast Mall, Kuantan

The Manhattan Fish Market is one of a number of new restaurants lining the main entrance of East Coast Mall in Kuantan.

I miss fish and chips back home in England. Nothing in Malaysia can come close to matching the fat and juicy chips of an English fish and chips shop. But the fish at The Manhattan Fish Market is the closest I've tasted to really good fish.

Fie and I ordered two sets of fish and chips. One of each of the two different types of fish, and shared a piece each. The fish was crispy on the outside and oh so soft and delicious on the inside, just the way it should be! The sauce covering the fish is to die for. We requested more of it and they readily brought along another small bowl of it.

There are some delicious-looking desserts on offer at The Manhattan Fish Market too, but that will be for another day.

Hai Tian Restaurant, Kuantan

Our friends brought us to Hai Tian restaurant a few weeks back and as it was our first time there, I didn't know what to expect and wondered if I would enjoy the meal.

These thoughts were on my mind as we walked in to the restaurant and took our seats at a round table in the non-smoking area, a separate closed room with glass windows.

Hai Tian restaurant sits just across the road from M. S. Garden Hotel, behind the nearby shop lots and petrol station.

The girls played on the stage while waiting for the food!

When the food arrived I was excited as it looked so good. And from the first mouthful to the last, I was thrilled with the taste. Easy to eat and incredibly delicious! We ordered a number of side dishes including: sweet and sour chicken, mixed vege, fish, crab and the house speciality of prawns in a coconut shell.

The drinks were up first. Pictured is the "cincau" drink

My personal favourite, sweet and sour chicken

Crab

Fish. The soup is particularly nice too

A great meal finished!

Need a tissue, but don't want them getting in the way on a full table? Just stick the whole box on the wall!

Had to laugh at the sign for the toilet - "boy"!

A great restaurant with delicious food, you may end up asking for extra rice! Definitely a restaurant to return to!

Beserah Fishing Village

Our friend took us out to the Beserah Fishing Village for a look around. Beserah Fishing Village is located around 7-8km north from Kuantan town along Jalan Beserah. It is just after SJK(C) Kong Min.

We entered one shop which used a type of shipping container as a large fridge where more fish were being kept. It was cold as we went inside. I told the woman at the door "Don't lock us in!" but I'm not sure if she understood! After briefly looking around the Beserah Fishing Village we went to East Coast Mall.

Kafe Kopi Aliff

Kafe Kopi Aliff, Bukit Sekilau, Kuantan

Kafe Kopi Aliff is a brand new restaurant opened in Bukit Sekilau, Kuantan. It occupies a corner shoplot on Lorong Sekilau 22, just a 1-minute drive from The Zenith Hotel and East Coast Mall.

We decided to test their food the other evening. We opted for their fish and chips, part of the Western food they serve. As you can see from the menus, there is a decent offering of food for such a small restaurant:

Kafe Kopi Aliff is open from 12 lunchtime to 12 midnight

Fish and chips at Kafe Kopi Aliff

I must admit I was a little nervous when presented with my food. The 'chips' were actually potato wedges and the fish came in smaller pieces as opposed to one long piece. But the RM8 dish actually tasted very nice, and the wedges were really sumptuous. Maybe there could have been  a little more wedges, but fortunately enough, the boss provided us with additional wedges on the house!

Another day we ordered the Chicken Chop for RM10, a very good price. My wife gave it a positively encouraging 8/10!

The friendly boss at Kafe Kopi Aliff gladly posed for a picture

We will most probably be visiting Kafe Kopi Aliff many more times in the future. It helps being just downstairs from our house!

If you are in the area, you should stop by and give Kafe Kopi Aliff a try. While you're there, you can also say hi to me!

Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant, Kuantan

Last night we ate out at Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant. It is located just off Jalan Beserah, in Kuantan.

Fidelia's former university classmate was here in Kuantan and invited us out for this meal. It was our first time at Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant, so we had no expectations over the food.

We ordered butter prawns, lemon chicken, sweet and sour fish, and mixed vegetables . . .

By the time the sun went down, Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant was packed full with customers. It's a very popular place to eat in Kuantan, with great food at reasonable prices.
