Streetz Cafe, Kuantan

The entrance to Streetz Cafe, Jalan Beserah, Kuantan

Streetz Cafe is located on Jalan Beserah in Kuantan. The cafe has been designed very well and is eye-catching. It presented us with a very good first impression. You soon realise why it is called 'Streetz':

There is a road, or a street, running right through the middle of the cafe. The furniture, decorations and general ambiance are all very cool and give you the feeling you are in a very good restaurant.

Waiting time was adequate and Fidelia really enjoyed her meal:

Lauren had a kids meal and enjoyed that too:

I ordered a typically western spaghetti bolognese and we also had a western pizza.

I was disappointed to find that Streetz Cafe had made the spaghetti with spices. Spaghetti is not supposed to be spicy. So I wasn't able to really enjoy my meal. As for the pizza, it had chilli all over it under the cheese, which made it basically inedible for us. My family quickly concluded that trying to Asian-ise Western food by making it spicy is not the way to do it, and at least to a Western palate like mine, is not appetising at all. Perhaps for local Malaysians, this may not present a problem, but for this English guy, I'm afraid it was off-putting.

And that's a shame because it's a beautiful cafe with a nice atmosphere, but when all is said and done, the ultimate litmus test of a restaurant is the food. And the Western portion of the Streetz Cafe menu was poor.

Bulan restaurant, Star City, Kuantan

Located on a corner lot off Jalan Beserah in Star City, Bulan restaurant operates from evening until night, specialising in a wide range of western food.

This was our first time trying out Bulan restaurant, and we were not disappointed. Apart from a quite severe toothache I encountered while chewing some food, everything was great.

Guests immediately come face-to-face with this charming little signboard with a message to make you smile. We went ahead and used the data connection on our phones anyway!

The menu had some very entertaining pages with fun names of certain dishes, like 'Single but Available' and 'English Man Sausage.'

My choice

Bulan restaurant is clean and attractive and the food is of a good quality. The prices are quite reasonable for western food.

Slake & Bite restaurant, EC Mall, Kuantan

Slake & Bite is a western styled restaurant located on the new-look 3rd floor at East Coast Mall beside the 3rd floor car park. You can't miss it if you come up the elevator as it's the first thing you'll see when the doors open.

Slake & Bite next to the exit to the 3rd floor car park ( to the left, out of picture) and opposite the elevators (just around the corner to the right)

There is a small seating area to the right of the restaurant. The far right wall is actually a glassboard and I asked the worker if I could write a message on it. She readily agreed and passed me a black pen. I wrote a little message and left my blog address there!

Had some really lovely chocolate and milo shakes

Multi-coloured wall decoration. Leah enjoys the drinks while waiting for the food

Fidelia ordered spaghetti and enjoyed it a lot

The girls had french fries with a sausage each

I tried out the sandwich burger at the recommendation of the waitress. The chilli sauce was rather sweet, which was good for me. The burger is quite similar to the Ramly burgers in Malaysia.

This was a nice meal, nothing special or unique, but well done and reasonably filling. Worth giving Slake & Bite a try if you need a light lunch.

Zorbas Cafe (formerly Americano Cafe), Star City, Kuantan

(SINCE THE TIME OF WRITING, AMERICANO CAFE HAS CHANGED NAME TO ZORBAS CAFE)

We were informed of Americano Cafe by our friend Sharon, wife of the owner. Americano Cafe is a fairly new restaurant in Kuantan, in the popular Star City area adjacent to Air Putih.

Address:
B22, Ground Floor,
Jalan Seri Kuantan 81,
Kuantan Star City II
25300 Kuantan, Pahang D.M.

Tel: 09-505 5038
H/P: 019-332 1959

Nikolas, the owner and Head Chef, hails from Greece and has spent many years in America. Hence his food has a Mediterranean and Western flavour, and is cooked to absolute perfection. You can taste the quality.

Americano Cafe is a small and cosy restaurant, suitable for families, with plenty of exciting dishes on the menu. Here's what the menu looks like:

Those who know me fairly well will know that I also take into account the state of the toilet when judging a restaurant. This one is nice and clean, has a choice of hose or toilet paper with two small paintings hanging on the walls. It gets a "PASS" :)

Our dessert plate included from top clockwise: Belgium Chocolate Mousse, American Dream Cake and Turkish Baklava

Every single bite of every dish we sampled was delicious and prepared to perfection.

The pizza was easily better than Dominos. The salad was fresh with great dressing. The french fries were not really french fries - they were delicious chips, fat and soft. The lamb was succulent and tender. The chicken tips were awesome, my daughter loved them. All of the food was flavoured beautifully with various spices and sauces.

My daughter said, "Daddy, I'm full, but it's so lovely that I want to keep eating!"

And the dessert was no less impressive. The Belgium Chocolate Mousse was of the highest quality, luxurious, and for RM2.90, you will not find a better bargain anywhere in Kuantan for a dessert! The American Dream Cake was light and fluffy and full of flavour. Finally the Turkish Baklava. I was not very attracted to this dessert by its appearance but once I took a bite I was hooked! The most fantastic sweet flavours filled my mouth - it was just amazing!

Here is Lauren in heaven eating food at Americano Cafe!

Americano Cafe is on a par with La Casa and for me, they are the best two Western restaurants in Kuantan.

You really need to pay a visit to Americano Cafe in Kuantan. I can't talk highly enough of the great dining experience we had there. It is amazing value for money. Good prices, quality food.

La Casa Restaurant, Kuantan

La Casa is one of my very favourite restaurants in Kuantan.

La Casa is a roadside house, half of which has been renovated into a restaurant

La Casa is located on Jalan Teluk Sisek, just before the turn to Teruntum Zoo, and sits directly opposite the golf course. It is just a minute's drive from Teluk Chempedak beach.

Run by friendly Europeans, La Casa is a big hit for expats in the area, as well as locals who love Western food. We have enjoyed several visits to La Casa and come away very satisfied each time.

Here is a selection of some of the food we have ordered and loved from our visits:

I love the little decorational items around La Casa too, which add to its ambience and charm:

Candle on the table

Ok, guarantee is not spelled correctly, but it's a humourous sign nonetheless!

Got it?!
