Blog of Note

"Burly" - with a strong, heavy body; sturdy
"Buxom" - plump and healthy-looking; busty
(Two adjectives used to describe people or characters in a novel. As a writer I'm always looking for new words to describe my characters)

The Blogger team chooses certain blogs each week, which they deem worthy of recognition; worthy of becoming 'Blog of Note.'

I don't know what the requirements and qualifications are in order to be merited a Blog of Note. I must admit that I'm occasionally left bemused how certain blogs manage to 'pull it off'. Others do have interesting designs and layouts, possessing some worthwhile content. But with the mix of good and mediocre, I sometimes wonder if the whole Blog of Note thing is entirely random. I imagine a buxom receptionist somewhere in the Blogger offices clicking on "Next blog" and electing it as the day's Blog of Note.

Whatever it is, those who are labelled with this award experience an increase in visitors, comments and followers. In turn, they also have the option of getting to know other bloggers who were directed to them. They are able to develop a more burly blog.

Blog of Note has become the Holy Grail of blogging, the object of desire, the hope and motivation of aspiring bloggers. I regularly congratulate those who have received the Blog of Note, and notice the comments of others who genuinely seem happy that recipients have been recognised, yet occasionally express the hope that they too, will someday obtain the Holy Grail.

Yet I'm sure 99% of people didn't set out with opening a new blog just to achieve Blog of Note status. If so, what would be the point of continuing? Some do it to keep in touch with family members dotted around the world. Some desire to make new friends. Others are passionate in their careers and want the world to see and share their interest. Yet others will make money out of blogging. And some may blog about certain issues and campaigns they may be promoting, to enable their voices to be heard. There is also the possibility of being noticed and invited to write for other blogs or websites, perhaps earning a little money or new-found fame in the process.

As for Blog of Note, I'm not too overparticular about it. I'm sure it would be terribly exciting to sign in and discover Blog of Note assigned to *Our home called Kuantan*, but I'm also getting along just fine without it.

What is your motivation in writing a blog?

  2. I like what you wrote about BON. I also check out the new BONs and congtratulate them if I find the Blog interesting. Just to answer your question... for ESZ: I'm in it to promote...for RFTS: I just want to let off steam, create an outlet for my inner blues ;)
I like the way you write - I wouldn't be a follower otherwise :) Can't wait to see the rest of your work for A-Z :)

  5. My motivation in writing my own blog is that I just find it interesting and enjoyable to write about things in my life. If people are interested in what I have to say then that is an added bonus, yet I just enjoy having the freedom to write about anything at any time.

  6. I blog to grow as a writer, exploring all the avenues I like to call 'ME'. Also, to mingle with other talented writers, who totally inspire me, on my road to publication.

  7. I started blogging because the experts said I should to promote my work but I was very inconsistent with it until I started to enjoy the society of bloggers and figured out how much I could learn from them. How I can't imagine not doing it.

  8. I have often wondered how the BON is nominated as some I have seen haven't been the greatest.
    But hey ho.

I started my blog as a means of filling in my friends of my (rather disastrous) dating life. I ended up telling the same stories over and over again, I thought it would be easier just to take an hour to write it down. Although, I have found it a great place to meet new writers, get tips and hints for my writing and experiment with my creativity.

    I have found a new hobby...and I love it!

Look forward to your future posts :)

  9. I was a BON last year. They have a place on their site where you can submit your blog and they will put it on a waiting list until they get around to you. I submitted mine last March I believe, but during the A to Z of 2010 another blogger suggested they move my blog up the list and I received the honor. Submit your blog and I'm sure you can be featured there as well at some point.

It's a nice little honor to have.

Contrary to my usual practice of subscribing to comments, to save time during challenge I will not be doing so during April. If you want to respond to my comment , please email me directly from your email notification for the comment.
    Thanks.

  10. My motivation in blogging has changed over the last couple years. I guess I don't really know what I was looking for exactly, except that I enjoyed the written word.

Over the years it's evolved into simply wanting to leave something enjoyable behind. Perhaps leave some mark?

These days, I find myself enjoying a trip into nostalgia, and I find that nothing helps ease the realization that the past is gone, like sharing it with others.

  12. I just like to write. That's my main motivation. And my blog is also my Web site to sell books and downloads. Then I like to network and get to know people from around the world I would otherwise not be able to do. Its a cultural thing.

  13. I blog to connect with other writers and to keep the practice of writing daily. And the support I get from fellow writers is staggering, so I try to do the same.

  14. I too must not be noteworthy and I know nothing about being a blog of note! As for motivation for writing a blog? I started over three years ago just because I wanted to, which I think is the best motivation of all.

  15. Interesting...I've often had the same idea about BofN although the buxom receptionist is a nice addition I hadn't imagined.

I write my blog because I want to write, I want to meet some like-minded (or not) bloggers, and to share some of my life's journey with family and friends.

  18. I started to blog because it seemed like a good idea at the time. ;-P

I wanted to get in touch with other writers. And boy have I succeeded in that.

I've never thought of the blogs of note thing as the Holy Grail, because of all the times I checked up the blogs, I only ever liked one. So I stopped checking.

    :-)
