Breakfast at Old Town

We like to go eat breakfast with our friends every Saturday morning at Old Town White Coffee. Good food at good prices and it's convenient for us.

Part 4 of our stay at Majestic Hotel KL focuses on our dining experience at Contango, the hotel's open-kitchen style dining room where we enjoyed breakfast and lunch.

At Contango you may approach a kitchen and request your food to be freshly cooked by a chef. The transparency of cooking is a change to the usual behind-the-scenes cooking. There is a wide variety of foods on offer from local Asian to Japanese to Western.

There are plenty of desserts on offer at Contango for those with a sweet tooth. One can choose from cakes to macarons to ice-cream sorbet to satisfy your palate after a meal.

Took two macarons of each flavour back up to our room where I ate 5 of them in a row. Felt full the rest of the day!

Dining in Contango is a lovely experience. The decor, open kitchens and variety and quality of food are big plus points. Looking forward to eating there again in the future!

Swiss Garden dim sum

You may have noticed in recent weeks we have been falling in love with dim sum. Thanks to some very good friends and their dim sum influence, we have been sharing a few breakfasts together.

A great dim sum brunch we had was at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa. This was on the occasion of a short stay at the resort to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary.

Really nice restaurant, clean, tidy, elegant, and best of all, quiet!

There are also private rooms within the restaurant. Maybe next time with more people we could eat in one of those!

One mistake we did make was allow the waitress to persuade us to order apple juice. Who would have thought that a simple fresh apple juice would have come to RM14?! So that was RM28 added to the bill that we didn't expect!

A few baskets of dim sum can be very filling. We ordered around 5 or 6 baskets and were completely satisfied.

Fidelia's good with chopsticks - I'm lousy! This is a charcoal bun, which the waitress told us, can only be found here at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa in Kuantan. Boy, it tasted good!

The total price for our dim sum meal came to RM88, which took us by surprise a little, no thanks to the RM28 worth of apple juice!

Good quality food anyway and would love to try it again next time, perhaps just with a nice glass of warm water.

In Hornbill Territory

While we were having breakfast at Vistana Hotel the other morning, I glanced out the window and saw a couple of hornbill's hopping across the wall. I slowly crept close enough to capture a couple of photos. They didn't seem to mind my presence.

This is the second time we've spotted this marvellous bird in Kuantan. Hornbills typically live in the trees and eat fruit as their main diet. On this occasion they were happily trying to catch smaller birds who seemed to enjoy flying dangerously close to these bigger hornbills!

Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, Kuching

We had one of the finer experiences while we stayed at the beautiful Four Points Hotel in Kuching, Malaysia last month.

Four Points Hotel is a great glass structure which is conveniently located around 2km from Kuching International Airport (KIA) and a 15-20 minute drive from the town centre by the Waterfront.

From the moment we walked in, our bags were relieved from us and an attendant named Harris escorted us off to our room. Harris was well dressed and mannered and had a pleasant little chat with us. He introduced us to our room and made us feel entirely at home. When it comes to good hotels, first impressions do count for me, and Harris got us off to a lovely start!

Damai Beach Resort, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

While we were over at Borneo last month we spent a night at Damai Beach Resort in Kuching in connection with Florianna's engagement.

We stayed in a beautiful wooden chalet beside the beach front.
