The Australian Open starts on Monday and you will have to expect a large portion of this blog to be dedicated to these outstanding sportsmen and women. The draw has been printed out and is stuck to the wall awaiting to be filled in as each day goes by.
The draw has thrown up a tricky route to the final for Roger Federer, beginning with an interesting first round tie against Igor Andreev who took the champion to five sets at the 2008 US Open. With Hewitt or Baghdatis most likely awaiting in the fourth round followed by a probable QF match with Verdasco or Davydenko, and a SF against Djokovic or Tsonga, this is a difficult half of the draw for the great Swiss.
But when it comes to best-of-five setters at major Grand Slam tournaments, Federer is king, missing just one final in the last 18. Incredible. The others in his half of the draw will be well aware of that and it is they who will be in fear.
COME ON ROG!!
