Under the Weather

Duncan is feeling a little under the weather and has been since Sunday. So, as a good wife I am informing you of his absence. He is struggling with a sore throat and bodily aches and pains. He will be back soon! Hopefully!

Flies getting down and dirty!!

Spotted these two on the branch of my orchid plant, getting down to business! In fact, this particular plant seems to be quite the love-spot for these flies - I've spotted such incidents on numerous occasions.

At first my Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2 had real problems focusing on the flies. It persisted on focusing on the background. The only clear picture I could get was too far away from the flies to see them!

So I grabbed a piece of white paper and with one hand held it behind the flies whilst I focused the camera in the other hand  -and hey hey, it locked on to them beautifully! This is a decent little tip if you're having focus problems with small objects. Neutralize the background with a piece of white paper!

Our home in Bukit Sekilau, Kuantan

Here are a few pictures of our home in Bukit Sekilau, Kuantan. We have been living in this apartment block for over 5 years now. We have experienced a few water and power cuts, a blocked water pipe, a minor flood in our house, locked ourselves out, and a robbery. But, we are very settled now, those problems are in the past, they don't occur too frequently any more (we've never been robbed or had blocked water pipes or flooding again, and we haven't locked ourselves out!). There is the occasional water cut or 'black-out' but that's about it.

We have some good neighbours around us, we live in a relatively quiet place (as opposed to the bustling Kuala Lumpur where everything is busy, and Singapore where staying with my friend we could hear the MRT trains passing by every 6 minutes or so up until midnight and at the crack of dawn in the morning!).

Bukit Sekilau is a beautiful little area of Kuantan with its vast array of delights, as I've previously discussed. Here are a few views of our apartment block and surrounding area.

The sun rises each morning over the hill in the background, as seen from my tuition room window

Sunlight bounces off the parked cars as sunset nears over the hills to the left

The setting sun leaves light and shadows across the apartment block

A bunga kertas tree decorates the area

A grass weed sways in the breeze

Fallen leaves lay strewn on the badminton courts opposite my apartment block

Lauren and Leah

Here are two pictures - one of Lauren and one of Leah - just days after they were born.

To me, they look rather similar. What do you think?

A walk with Lauren

Yesterday I decided to take Lauren out for a short walk around the field while my wife and Leah were having a nap. It's always good to get out of the house for a while, get some fresh air, and take some pictures in the process. Lauren is ever the available subject for photographs!

The first shot was taken on the old badminton courts

Next we took some photos at the field

This is probably my favourite image!

A little mischievously, I plucked a flower from someone's small front garden, and placed it behind Lauren's ear!
