Zorbas Cafe (formerly Americano Cafe), Star City, Kuantan

(SINCE THE TIME OF WRITING, AMERICANO CAFE HAS CHANGED NAME TO ZORBAS CAFE)

We were informed of Americano Cafe by our friend Sharon, wife of the owner. Americano Cafe is a fairly new restaurant in Kuantan, in the popular Star City area adjacent to Air Putih.

Address:
B22, Ground Floor,
Jalan Seri Kuantan 81,
Kuantan Star City II
25300 Kuantan, Pahang D.M.

Tel: 09-505 5038
H/P: 019-332 1959

Nikolas, the owner and Head Chef, hails from Greece and has spent many years in America. Hence his food has a Mediterranean and Western flavour, and is cooked to absolute perfection. You can taste the quality.

Americano Cafe is a small and cosy restaurant, suitable for families, with plenty of exciting dishes on the menu. Here's what the menu looks like:

Those who know me fairly well will know that I also take into account the state of the toilet when judging a restaurant. This one is nice and clean, has a choice of hose or toilet paper with two small paintings hanging on the walls. It gets a "PASS" :)

Our dessert plate included from top clockwise: Belgium Chocolate Mousse, American Dream Cake and Turkish Baklava

Every single bite of every dish we sampled was delicious and prepared to perfection.

The pizza was easily better than Dominos. The salad was fresh with great dressing. The french fries were not really french fries - they were delicious chips, fat and soft. The lamb was succulent and tender. The chicken tips were awesome, my daughter loved them. All of the food was flavoured beautifully with various spices and sauces.

My daughter said, "Daddy, I'm full, but it's so lovely that I want to keep eating!"

And the dessert was no less impressive. The Belgium Chocolate Mousse was of the highest quality, luxurious, and for RM2.90, you will not find a better bargain anywhere in Kuantan for a dessert! The American Dream Cake was light and fluffy and full of flavour. Finally the Turkish Baklava. I was not very attracted to this dessert by its appearance but once I took a bite I was hooked! The most fantastic sweet flavours filled my mouth - it was just amazing!

Here is Lauren in heaven eating food at Americano Cafe!

Americano Cafe is on a par with La Casa and for me, they are the best two Western restaurants in Kuantan.

You really need to pay a visit to Americano Cafe in Kuantan. I can't talk highly enough of the great dining experience we had there. It is amazing value for money. Good prices, quality food.

Our stay at Majestic Hotel - Part 4 - Fine dining at Contango

Majestic Hotel KL's dining room, named Contango, Ground Floor

Part 4 of our stay at Majestic Hotel KL focuses on our dining experience at Contango, the hotel's open-kitchen style dining room where we enjoyed breakfast and lunch.

An open-kitchen at Contango, Majestic Hotel KL

At Contango you may approach a kitchen and request your food to be freshly cooked by a chef. The transparency of cooking is a change to the usual behind-the-scenes cooking. There is a wide variety of foods on offer from local Asian to Japanese to Western.

There are plenty of desserts on offer at Contango for those with a sweet tooth. One can choose from cakes to macarons to ice-cream sorbet to satisfy your palate after a meal.

Macarons decorate the walls of Contango

I'm still craving for these delightful desserts comprised of lollipops and macarons of various flavours

Took two macarons of each flavour back up to our room where I ate 5 of them in a row. Felt full the rest of the day!

Dining in Contango is a lovely experience. The decor, open kitchens and variety and quality of food are big plus points. Looking forward to eating there again in the future!

Vistana Hotel's Gigantic Ice Kacang!

The Vistana Hotel in Kuantan must sell the biggest 'ice kacang' I have ever seen!

Ice kacang is a dessert including beans and jelly topped off with lots of ice shavings. Occasionally it may involve a scoop of ice-cream.

At the Coffee House at Vistana Hotel Kuantan we were absolutely amazed when my wife's order of ice kacang arrived!

How majestic does that look?! With a scoop of ice-cream on top as well! That is a real ice kacang!

Fidelia was sure happy with it!

And so began the task of getting a spoon in and eating the ice kacang without toppling it...

Fidelia removed the ice-cream onto a separate plate and started shaving the ice from the top down.

Fidelia changed to a more conventional spoon which made it easier to devour this monster of an ice kacang...

This is a 'longan', a fruit which is similar to a lychee but smaller. Ice kacangs may contain fruits, beans and jellies.

Fidelia is half-way through her ice kacang now...

The huge tower has disappeared. I wonder how much she can finish?

Fidelia stands behind her almost-finished ice kacang!

If you are in Kuantan and need a dessert, head over to the Vistana Hotel Coffee House and experience for yourself the mighty Vistana ice kacang!
