Streetz Cafe, Kuantan

The entrance to Streetz Cafe, Jalan Beserah, Kuantan

Streetz Cafe is located on Jalan Beserah in Kuantan. The cafe has been designed very well and is eye-catching. It presented us with a very good first impression. You soon realise why it is called 'Streetz':

There is a road, or a street, running right through the middle of the cafe. The furniture, decorations and general ambiance are all very cool and give you the feeling you are in a very good restaurant.

Waiting time was adequate and Fidelia really enjoyed her meal:

Lauren had a kids meal and enjoyed that too:

I ordered a typically western spaghetti bolognese and we also had a western pizza.

I was disappointed to find that Streetz Cafe had made the spaghetti with spices. Spaghetti is not supposed to be spicy. So I wasn't able to really enjoy my meal. As for the pizza, it had chilli all over it under the cheese, which made it basically inedible for us. My family quickly concluded that trying to Asian-ise Western food by making it spicy is not the way to do it, and at least to a Western palate like mine, is not appetising at all. Perhaps for local Malaysians, this may not present a problem, but for this English guy, I'm afraid it was off-putting.

And that's a shame because it's a beautiful cafe with a nice atmosphere, but when all is said and done, the ultimate litmus test of a restaurant is the food. And the Western portion of the Streetz Cafe menu was poor.

Bulan restaurant, Star City, Kuantan

Located on a corner lot off Jalan Beserah in Star City, Bulan restaurant operates from evening until night, specialising in a wide range of western food.

This was our first time trying out Bulan restaurant, and we were not disappointed. Apart from a quite severe toothache I encountered while chewing some food, everything was great.

Guests immediately come face-to-face with this charming little signboard with a message to make you smile. We went ahead and used the data connection on our phones anyway!

The menu had some very entertaining pages with fun names of certain dishes, like 'Single but Available' and 'English Man Sausage.'

My choice

Bulan restaurant is clean and attractive and the food is of a good quality. The prices are quite reasonable for western food.

Frankie Sandwich Cafe

Frankie Sandwich Cafe is located in Star City, Kuantan nearby Old Town White Coffee, just along the road from the Rozel furniture place. It's easily accessible from Jalan Beserah.

First impression was good as we walked through the doors of Frankie Sandwich Cafe. The restaurant is clean, tidy and nicely arranged. Service was quick, though that was probably because we were just the second customer there.

As you can see from these menus, Frankie Sandwich Cafe is quite pricey but there is a wide variety of dishes on offer. I opted for the Frankie Tripledecker Sandwich and a regular hot chocolate.

Frankie, the owner of Frankie Sandwich Cafe, came to assist us with our order and serving us our food, though he shied away from having his photo taken for this post!

hot chocolate (regular)

This was a side dish of mashed potato with a delicious layer of melted cheese

I was really surprised at just how big my Tripledecker Sandwich was! It was very filling!

Grace went for this sandwich on a different, thicker bread

Fie chose this noodle dish, though it was made of simple instant noodles which you can pick up very cheaply at any superstore

And finally, the toilet. I do pass a large portion of judgement about a place on the quality and cleanliness of its toilet. Frankie Sandwich Cafe's toilet is clean and spacious and passes the toilet test!

Overall, Frankie Sandwich Cafe is a great place to eat but a little on the costly side - our bill came to RM107! - but well worth a visit for his sandwiches and the nice atmosphere.

Beserah Fishing Village

Our friend took us out to the Beserah Fishing Village for a look around. Beserah Fishing Village is located around 7-8km north from Kuantan town along Jalan Beserah. It is just after SJK(C) Kong Min.

We entered one shop which used a type of shipping container as a large fridge where more fish were being kept. It was cold as we went inside. I told the woman at the door "Don't lock us in!" but I'm not sure if she understood! After briefly looking around the Beserah Fishing Village we went to East Coast Mall.

Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant, Kuantan

Last night we ate out at Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant. It is located just off Jalan Beserah, in Kuantan.

Fidelia's former university classmate was here in Kuantan and invited us out for this meal. It was our first time at Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant, so we had no expectations over the food.

We ordered butter prawns, lemon chicken, sweet and sour fish, and mixed vegetables . . .

The food at Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant was delicious!

By the time the sun went down, Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant was packed full with customers. It's a very popular place to eat in Kuantan, with great food at reasonable prices.

Our great stay at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan

To celebrate my birthday last week, we stayed one night at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan. And what a great time we had there!

Swiss Garden Resort & Spa lies 20 minutes up the coast from Teluk Chempedak. It is accessed via Jalan Beserah from Kuantan town. It is far out from the town area, but it offers many activities and is famous with both locals and tourists alike.

For a more detailed description of Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan, and our journey there, accompanied by more photos from a previous visit, you may follow this link.

The entrance and lobby area of Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, is spectacular to say the least.

A piano waits in the lobby. Every night a pianist provides lovely music to fill the lobby at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa

We stayed in a sea-facing room and were not disappointed with its size, quality and cleanliness.

We stayed in room 8406, on the top floor at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa Kuantan

The bathroom was very nice and comfortable. It was Leah's favourite part of our room!

We had a lovely balcony at our room which gave us beautiful views of the swimming pool, hotel and beach.

We took the children to the games area at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa. There are lots of arcade games, a pool table, painting, table tennis, darts, Nintendo Wii, and Tupai Kids Club, alongside a gym. Despite a lack of any staff at Tupai Kids Club, we walked right in and made ourselves at home!

At night we ordered food via in-room service and we were thrilled with what we received. The food we ordered arrived in little plastic boxes with lids, all inside a large paper bag. And the food itself was also delicious. Well worth the money. Swiss Garden Resort & Spa was also kind enough to give me a free birthday cake in conjunction with my 30th birthday!

Here are a few photos we took of the hotel at night:

Breakfast the next morning was great. Lots of variety and once again the food tasted very nice, and for once, the air-conditioning wasn't too cold!

Overall we had a tremendous time at Swiss Garden Resort & Spa Kuantan and we are looking forward already, to our next stay there!
