Upgraded with a Canon EOS 650D

We recently purchased a Canon EOS 650D DSLR camera to replace our Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot model.

The Canon EOS 650D

We are very excited and have been enjoying experimenting with it and trying to learn all about these pro cameras.

The best feature of the Canon EOS 650D is this beautiful flexible touchscreen, the first of its kind on a DSLR camera

We took a few shots of the children (they are such apt and willing models), and I went for a walk this morning to test out the Canon EOS 650D with some nature landscapes.

It's also not too late to leave a little review of my blog at

Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

We arrived in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia this afternoon after a 1 hour and 45 minutes flight.

We travelled with Air Asia from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), the new terminal which carries all Air Asia flights. The flight was a first for Lauren and Leah, and our first for 5 years! Leah slept through the whole flight and Lauren handled it very well until the descent, when her ears started blocking!

beautiful!

...and here is Kuching

Kuching is the capital city of the state of Sarawak, which lies on the island of Borneo. It's my wife's home town and she's so excited to be back!

My sister-in-law, Urai, has borrowed a Nikon from her friend, but it's stuck in zoom and we don't have the zoom lens. I think my Sony point-and-shoot will do a good job for the wedding pictures. Let's see if we can sort out the zoom on the Nikon.

Kuching has changed a lot in the last 5 years, which we noticed just on the journey from the airport to Batu Kawa, where my father-in-law stays. Looking forward to exploring Kuching and taking plenty of pictures!

Sony DSC-W520 Digital Camera Sweep Panorama

We have a new Sony DSC-W520 digital camera. It comes with a new Sweep Panorama function, allowing me to take panoramic pictures encompassing 261 degrees.

Here's why we have a new camera . . .

The other week we had a tragic accident in which our Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2 digital camera landed on the floor lens first, and was damaged severely. Lauren was passing the camera to me, I was receiving it, and somewhere in between, it dropped, crashed, on the hard cold floor. I buried my face in my hands in silence. Lauren, feeling bad, went to her room and lay on her bed in silence. Surprisingly I didn't feel angry with her or the situation. After a few minutes I went to see Lauren to tell her not to feel upset. That was a nice moment.

Here are a few panoramas I've been shooting . . . just minutes after purchasing the new camera!
