The Power of the Sunrise

The daily sunrise is probably the most neglected natural phenomenon. This early time of the day provides me with an opportunity to witness the handiwork of God as the earth on which I'm standing gradually rotates its axis to face the sun. I enjoy seeing the dark of night being replaced with the first light of the new morning. It's a special moment, knowing that most people are still tucked up in bed whilst this miracle of the sunrise silently shows its power.

The power is a positive feeling of peace and hope that fills me with motivation to enjoy the day ahead and make the most of life.

My wife and I have finally had 3 nights of good sleep as Lauren seems to have finally found the ability to sleep through the night without too much drama. Four days ago, on the 6th of March, Lauren woke us at around 5.30am and sure enough, it was impossible for me to go back to sleep, so I grabbed the camera and went for a walk outside. I was fortunate enough to come upon a golden sunrise by accident. Here's how it unfolded:

This morning I went with my friend, Raymond, to Teluk Chempedak, (the beach down the road) in an attempt to see the sun rising on the horizon over the sea. It turned out that it was a little too cloudy, so we were a little disappointed, but here are a few pictures I managed to snap. The clouds did look heavenly:

We caught a small glimpse of pinks and oranges, which lasted for a minute or two, and then were gone

This is my favourite picture of this morning:

I'm extremely eager to go to Teluk Chempedak again in the hope of observing a much grander sunrise, perhaps tomorrow or Saturday morning. It's always a gamble on whether there will be clear skies.

  1. Sunrise is a nice moment, I agree. I witnessed it on December, in India, and last April on a Croatian island. In the city all its splendor is lost. Seldom, I can spot the solar disk coming out.

Your pictures are very nice, even those on cloudy weather.

  3. Try watching sunrise from Pantai Sepat instead. I tried waiting for the sunrise once with my friend in TC, but the sun came out from the side (from the hills) instead of from the sea. We were a bit disappointed because only around 7 something saw the sun and realised it came from the side.. :P
